Update from the Neurological Alliance January 2017
Back in July 2016, the Alliance met Sir Bruce Keogh, National Medical Director at NHS England. This followed months of campaigning in the wake of the National Clinical Director for neurology post being cut. At the July meeting the Alliance was mandated to lead a piece of work to develop an alternative leadership structure for neurology.
In October, the Alliance became one of the core members of the new national leadership group for neurology – known as the National Neurology Advisory Group (NNAG) – and attended its inaugural meeting. This meeting was largely a scoping exercise, discussing the membership and terms of reference (attached).
The second meeting took place in January, with Sarah Vibert in attendance on behalf of the Alliance. This meeting was an opportunity for members of the NNAG to share their current priorities and workplans and, for the Alliance, was a good opportunity to sense-check our 2017 plans to ensure there is a good fit with the current opportunities in the neurological community.
At this meeting it was agreed that the NNAG would develop “a system-wide national approach for neurology”. There is significant scope for the Alliance and members to take a leading role in this activities.
