We are a Neurological Alliance formed in November 2013 to bring together all the charities, organisations and individuals with an interest in neurological diseases and services in Cumbria
To improve the lives of people affected by neurological conditions and work towards their prevention and eradication.
To raise awareness and understanding of neurological conditions to ensure that every person diagnosed with a neurological condition has access to high quality, joined up services and information from their first symptoms, throughout their life.
Our work to date
Contributed to county wide review of neurological services – September 2015 and 2017
Our chairman is a member of the review team run by the Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Specialist Commissioning Unit to scope specialist neuro rehab services
We worked with two Strategic Clinical Networks to improve care pathways
Developed relationships with a wide range of partners interested in disability
Supported the Headache work of Dr Jitka Vanderpol Consultant neurolgist
Maintained our membership of the national Neurological Alliance and worked with the Northern NA, TVDNY NA and the new Lancashire NA.
In 2017 our special projects includes working with hotels, holiday accommodation owners to increase the number of bedrooms with ceiling hoists and with motorway service stations to include appropriate toilet facilities – changing places with hoists and benches. We were delighted to hear that Center Parcs have agreed to install Changing Places toilet provision in all their holiday sites.
In 2018 we started Cafe Neuro in Barrow, open weekly each Thursday from 11 am until 1 pm. Check it out here
